And so it begins, the first blog-post about Taiyou no Uta, i’ve been looking forward to check this serie and it’s not only because of Erika ……..
With gryzze as a Raw provider at D-Addicts and D-Fansubs as the soft sub provider, I was ready to go!
And I would really like to thank them again!

It’s a story about a girl who suffers from te disease XP also known as Xeroderma pigmentosum. Let’s bring out Wikipedia;
Xeroderma pigmentosum, or XP, is a genetic disorder of DNA repair in which the body’s normal ability to fix mutations caused by ultraviolet (UV) light is disabled. This leads to multiple basaliomas and other skin malignancies at a young age. In severe cases, it is necessary to avoid sunlight.
Her name is Kaoru Amane (Erika Sawajiri) and every night she sang herself away with a guitar in her hands. She led her life abit different then anybody else, sleeping during the day and active at night.
Though what kept her strong was singing and making music……….
It wouldn’t be a drama if it hadn’t had some kind of mysterious guy with a story, and that is Fujiyo Kouji (Yamada Takayuki)

In episode 1 which is entitled; 「太陽に嫌われた少女・・・月夜がくれた奇跡」 we start out with Kouji who’s meeting his friends to head off to the beach.
We then get to meet Misaki who’s filming on the beach to show (I think) Kaoru how life is when the sun is shining in the broadday light. Though it’s more of a ‘Whóóó he’s Hawt!’ film.

For the first time we then get to see Kaoru as her day actually now starts at night. While trying to sneak out her room, her mother Amane Yuki comes in to wake her up and tells her a letter from the record company is waiting.
Kaouru gets to hear she isn’t selected in the final selection, though the letter leaves a message;
‘Have you ever loved someone with all your heart?’

It seems like the Amane family runs a restaurant, by then Misake enters the restaurant and head straight over to Kaoru.
She shows Kaoru the video which she taped over at the beach, she wanted to show her one guy Ryuusuke.
Though Kaoru noticed this one guy (Kouji) and is all happy again. She wrote down she saw him again and there’s some guitar on the background, what more could you ask for?

After that the intro (OP) for Taiyou no Uta starts. Good music as I must say, go play it here above. What’s weird is you see Kaoru having fun with Kouji in the burning sun…… Yes I know, don’t take the intro all that serious. It could be her dream,….like it’s having some sort of filter on it.

Back to the ep.
Kaoru heads back to the beach at night while playing the video Misaki taped. She thinks of what Kouji might be doing as of now.
Then we see Kaoji being fired, he’s having a hard time to ‘survive’ and getting jobs.
As he heads back home he sees Asami’s new cd being promoted. As his motor breaks down he notices Kaoru playing one of Asumi’s songs.
Kaoru also sees him and talks to him, she asks him if the guitar she holds is his. Kaoji ignores it, takes the guitar, trows in into the bushes and leaves.

We then get to see what it’s all about. We flashback to some sort of hospital with a younger Kaoru. She then sees (most likely) Kaoji who throws away a guitar. She decides to take it, and as of now she still has it.

As night falls the next day she see ho the guys leave the beach.
Misaki bumps into Ryuusuke, he asks her for a date. As she has nobody to go with she asks if Kaoru if she want to join. At first she doesn’t want to. Though as she hears there’s going to be one more guy of the video, she goes for it.
And there they meet in some sort of restaurant, and guess who that other guy is…… indeed Kaoji.

After that Misaki and Ryuusuke go for walk on the beach while leaving Kaoru and Kaoji alone. At this moment I had somewhat of a Déjà Vu.
As Kaoru tries to start a conversation, Kaoji wants to leave. She lures him back while faking something cut her feet, as she heard that Kaoji is a Medical Student.
It seems that both were lying then, about the injury and the study. Sort of a 1Liter of Tears/Ichi Rittoru no namida thingy there.
The conversation doesn’t go that smooth, though Kaoji confesses the gui’tar was his.
He tells her that he wants to get 20, as he has no dream as of now. He doesn’t want to pursue his dreams, he didn’t cared if he’d die now. Kaoru dares him to go into the sea.
Kaoru is disappointed in Kaoji and walks away. Kaoji counterattacked by telling her who actually is incomplete over here.
The girl who is pretending to her best, by copy and singing somebody else’s songs.
Kaoru runs away, as he doesn’t understand it.

At home Kaoru turns on the TV and sees the performance of Asami latest song, the song she sang when she meeted Kaoji for the first time.
At that time also Kaoji turns on his tv and sees the same performance, he quickly turned it off as it reminds him of Kaoru.
We then get a short sequence between Asami and Kudo (manager?) leaving the TV show.

What follows after that is Kaoru at the hospital for some checkup and some flashbacking about how XP was diagnosed back then.
She continues by telling the doctor he had said to her that she wouldn’t likely be getting the age of 20.
And so,… every birthday is celebrated bigger and bigger.
She turns 19 soon and wonders if she should stop singing, and do her job as a daughter. But the doc thinks she’s just running away from her disease, and tells her to keep on fighting.

And again,…Kaoji is being rejected while searching for a job. As he rides back, he notices Kaoru again.
Kaoru is playing one of her own songs she made. ‘Stay with me’. It gave me some goosebumps to be honest.
In that moment Kaoji is watching her and in his thoughts you can see him playing that guitar, with some weird car crash and a fight. I can’t quite understand what was happening. It’s some horrible memory.
Kaoru then gets harassed by two guys, Kaoji quickly enters the ring,…DING DING.
He kicks the guys away from Kaoru,…..they both then got away with the motor.

After that a short sequence with the parents of Kaoru and the doctor follows. It seems that her brains are somewhat withering,……if that doesn’t gives you a Déjà Vu then I don’t know what will.

While riding back Kaoru fires some nice lines and ‘embraced’ Kaoji.
With that episode one is at it’s ending. Hope you liked the episode as much as I did.
